Bison Resort, Kabini

About Kabini

The Kabini, is a river in south India which originates in Wayand District of Kerala and close to the town of Sargur in Karnataka , it forms the huge Kabini Reservoir. The backwaters of the Kabini reservoir are very rich in wildlife especially in summer when the water level recedes to form rich grassy meadows. A dam was built across the Kabini, creating a huge lake with Giant Bamboo dominating the river banks. During the dry season, water is let out for irrigation and the lake dries out leaving only the main river visible. The resulting open plain supports an abundance of fresh grass more reminiscent of African savanna than tropical India. This unique microhabitat has proved to be a boon for the park, providing fresh grass when the rest of the park is drying out.

Kabini is one of the most popular wildlife destinations of Karnataka, probably because of its easy accessibility, lush green landscape surrounding a large picturesque lake, and fantastic sightings of large herds of elephants. Situated on the banks of the Kabini River, this forest reserve is of forestland, steep valleys, and water bodies. Now it is considered to be one of the best wildlife sanctuaries in Karnataka, famous for its spectacular wildlife and bird life.

The Bison resort

Serene and tranquil through the day yet exciting and stimulating at night; the Bison Kabini Resort is the first of its kind in India and offers luxury at the very edge of adventure. 'The Bison is situated at the confluence of the Bandipur and Nagarhole National Parks, on the shores of the exotic Kabini River in Karnataka (West of Mysore). Our wildlife resort in Nagarhole Tiger reserve is a mix between a typical East African camp and the old hunting lodges of the Raj. This Jungle resort in Kabini is one of the few wildlife resorts in India which has created the perfect balance between luxury and experiencing the wild. The Bison is the only resort in Kabini which overlooks the forest. In an area which boasts off the highest density in Asiatic wildlife, one can only imagine what our view holds from the banks of the Kabini backwaters.

Your safari will be in the Kakkankote Range which includes the backwaters of the Kabini, superb grasslands, lush bamboo, rose wood, sandal wood and teak forests with strategically placed water holes and salt licks. Excellent grazing grasslands ensure sightings of elephant, gaur, sambar, chital, wild dog and wild boar throughout the year from the camp. The tiger and leopard are sighted with regularity in national park. In a nutshell, The Bison Kabini Resort is a wildlife resort in Karnataka like no other. Have a drink at sunset overlooking the forest dotted with elephants, dine in the jungle, catch the starry midnight motor boat ride, wake up for a safari and enjoy a host of unique activities. Our spectacular location, unique accommodation, view and services are one of a kind and we invite you o experience the same with the wild.
